Unformatted text preview: Energy Flow in the Biosphere The Biosphere : the part of the Earth including air, land, surface rocks, and water, within which life occurs. We measure life in terms of biomass, which is the mass of living (and sometimes recently living) matter. Pretty much all energy starts with sunlight We term the energy that falls on the surface of the Earth solar insolation. Average is about 250 w/sq.m.
