Module 3C:Questions:1.Give specific examples of how the following perceptual errors can be committed by either asupervisor or co-worker.c)Stereotypingd)Recency effect2. What counterproductive or undesirable outcomes in work performance or work behavior may resultfrom this errors?3-a.Is Mary’s performance due to internal or external causes?Justify your answer by assessing Mary’sperformance in terms of consistency, consensus, distinctiveness3-bMary seems to be showing poor performance. What perceptual errors may have been committed inhiring Mary.Answers:1.A.An example of stereotyping in a workplace is when some of my colleagues associates anegative behavior of a co-worker based on religion and ethnicity, like when an employeewho happens to be a Muslim has an attitude of hurting others by subconsciously sayingoffensive remarks to other employees and when hurt, these other employees would tendto say stereotyping remarks such as “Muslim kasi”(because he is a Muslim) or “TagaMindanao kasi”(because he came from Mindanao), which is very wrong becausestereotyping is judging someone mainly because of his/her association within a certaingroup given the fact that each individual have their own unique personality, values andattitude.1.B.The recency effect is in some ways very similar to stereotyping because they are bothassociated on how we perceive other people, the only difference is that in recency effectwe perceive others based on a recent event or information, example is when an engineerin one division is asking his supervisor for a Travel Order to inspect a particular projectand upon submission of the letter it was immediately rejected by the supervisor because aweek ago another engineer asked for the same, but was later found that he did notperform his duties on the said date, therefore the supervisor associated the past event thattranspired a week ago with the present, thus he did not allow the engineer to be givenTravel Order due to lack of confidence. This kind of wrong perception should also beeradicated in the organization because it is not always the case that what others peopledid in the past would be done by another person.
