2 Environmental Scan – Tesla Tesla is known for their advanced electric cars. According to Tesla Motors (2016), “Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.” T he reason t hey have been successful is that because they are willing to give what customers what they want. Zach (2015) stated, “Tesla has shown repeatedly that it cares more about providing the customer with good service, a good product, and honesty than making a little more money off of them” [A bit awkward in academic phrasing, and this raises a few questions substantively.] Be careful with paragraph structure. In general, one main thought, one paragraph. Through scanning, the company will be able to identify early signs of threats and opportunities that may influence their current and future plans. Tesla being able to [passive voice; is there a more active, more powerful, way to say this?] analyze these trends will help them determine what they should focus on to stay competitive. This strategic plan will cover how Tesla creates value and sustains competitive advantage, evaluation of their remote environment, assessment of their industry environment and their external operating environment. Creating Value and Sustaining Competitive Advantage Tesla Motors has recently created the Model 3 , which is their most affordable car yet. By creating a product that focuses on affordability in their differentiation strategy, it [Again, awkward phrasing.] creates value for the customers. The Model 3 will have a farther reach in growing its customer base. This will increase brand awareness for the company once the product hits the market. More affordable products mean that they will be able to produce more to meet the demand for the customer [Be careful with proofreading. Every word, every character, every point of punctuation —all are important in strong formal writing.]
3 Might need to explain a bit. What is the environment? Does the reader know? How expensive are Tesla’s cars relative to others? How does Model 3 relate to Tesla ’s other cars and to other brands? An important intangible is that Tesla has repeatedly shown that it cares more about providing the customer with good service, a good product, and honesty than making a little more money off of them (Sahan, 2015). [Repetitive.] This is one reason Tesla is still standing as a smaller car marker in the harsh competitive environment of automotive sales. The company could sustain their competitive advantage by this reason alone. Is it an early adopter issue where enough customers are willing to pay a premium, which has sustained the company during its infancy? Other funding?
