Part One – My analysis of the theme of this poem is making bad choices. I understand this from the fact that they left school and started doing things that they thought were cool and that would ultimately cause their death. The devices that are used in this poem are rhyme and repetition. The rhyme device comes into play when the author uses “cool/school”, “Late/straight”, “sin/gin”, and “June/soon”. The repetition is obvious in this poem, “We” is use at the end of every line. With the repetition, I was always aware that it was a group doing the actions not just one person. Also I think that when the author uses rhymes in a poem it is always easier for me to read. The rhymes also help in addressing the verbs in the poem. Part Two – I believe the poem “We Real Cool” by Gwendolyn Brooks shows the use of assonance. In our book it says “assonance occurs when a similar vowel sound is repeated in words that have
