What would you like to learn more about? The personal academic essay allows us to wade into formal research while breaking some rules in order to make the subject matter more palpable, enjoyable and relevant to us as both writers and readers. Because we are bringing in our own experiences, attitudes and aspirations, we may choose to write in the first person. Other creative nonfiction techniques, such as vivid description and time tripping, will enliven our research, which when done in the right spirit, is anything but boring.
