2-14 Crisis in Europe 1550-1650 • rebellion is central authority to develop state • in medieval period leaders acted as overlords • do not successfully establish themselves as new monarchy w/ authority over lords and people • people threw out leaders through rebellion • HREm was overlord of many lands • did not develop state and position of new monarch • no central council or bureaucracy • courts claim authority themselves as new monarchs • some dukes etc. wanted to become calvinists others help catholicism • Ferdinand says no Protestantism for Yugoslavia • Emissary of HRE tossed out window • war in German domains of HRE over religion • fight to stay protestant, catholics for for jkdfgh • protestant princes gets aid from Denmark and Catholic get aid from Spain • Catholic France comes to help protestant princes to keep HRE from uniting empire under strong emperor • Treaty of Wesphalia • Pope did not like it at all
