Communication Study Guide Exam One Chapter One Communication  is the simultaneous sharing and creating of meaning through  human symbolic action.  Communications  is the word generally used to denote  the delivery systems for mediated and mass communication.  Plagiarism  is the use of another person’s information, language, or ideas without  citing the originator and making it appear that the user is the originator.  Ethics  is  an individuals system of moral principles. Communication is: a process, a system, interactional and transactional, and  intentional and unintentional. Source  is the creator of the message.  Message  is the stimulus that is produced  by the source.  Interference  is anything that changes the meaning of an intended  message.  Channel  is the route by which messages flow between sources and  receivers.  Receiver  is the individual who analyzes and interprets the message.  Feedback  is the response to a message that the receiver sends to the source.  Environment  is the psychological and physical surroundings in which  communication occurs.  Context  is the circumstances or situation in which  communication occurs. Dyadic communication  is the exchange of information between two people it  includes formal and informal conversations. Communication is not a cure-all, quantity does not mean quality, meaning is not  in the words we use, we do not have a natural ability to communicate, and  communication is not reversible. You can gain communication competence by understanding the role of  communication in our lives and being aware of how complex it is. Realize the  myths and have a good communication repertoire. Also be able to evaluate the  communication of others. Reflect on good communication skills.
