Haffner 1 Zak Haffner Ms. Arroyo English 11 17 November 2014 The Great American Dream The Great Gatsby is important to American literature by its implications on the American Dream throughout the book; F. Scott Fitzgerald symbolizes multiple Era specific events and Relations from Gatsby’s life to early 1900’s America. The Great Gatsby symbolizes the American Dream. In the Great Gatsby, It is said Gatsby, “…could barely fail to grasp it.” This correlates to the real world Long Islanders of the 1920’s. “The Dream status seeking long islanders soon turned to nightmares.” These quotes go hand in hand due to Gatsby’s failed attempt to get Daisy symbolizes the Long Islanders Dreams that had failed even though they were so close. In the Great Gatsby Nick Carraway says “They were careless people… Tom and Daisy.” This symbolizes the gross ignorance and careless misdemeanor of the Old and New money of the 1920’s and how they did not care about anything but themselves. “All he found is the “foul dust”
