According to the World Religions For Health Care Professionals, “Judaism is the oldestmonotheistic religious system and the first textually- based religion in the Western world”(Sorajjakool et al., 2017, p.153). In this religion, the people have two fasting seasons, YomKippur and Tisha B'Av. Yom Kippur, also “known as the day of atonement, occurs on the 10thday of Tishrei every year, which always falls during the 7th month of the Jewish ecclesiasticalyear” (Potts, n.d.). Therefore, this calendar year, Yom Kippur will occur on the evening ofTuesday, October 4, and ends on the evening of Wednesday, October 5. The key features to knowabout this fasting are that it lasts twenty-five hours and that eating, drinking, using fragrance, ortaking a shower or bath is forbidden with the "central concept of showing reverence forlife"(Sorajjakool et al., 2017, p.154).
