OnRei Arnold-FranklinForensic ImmunologyModule 3 Assignment1.The dendritic cells that are in the epithelia are professional antigen presenting cells. These cells are also found in T cell rich areas in peripheral lymphoid organs, and almostall organs, but they are in smaller number. These dendritic cells capture the microbes bypinocytosis, and phagocytosis. Pinocytosis is used for antigens that are soluble, andphagocytosis is used for antigens that are not soluble. These dendritic cells can also havereceptors that let them bind with microbes. When these cells sense or come acrossmicrobes they produce cytokines. These cytokines make the dendritic cells loseadhesiveness and help them leave the epithelium. Dendritic cells also have receptors forchemokines. The chemokines direct the dendritic cells that are no longer in epithelium tothe lymph nodes that will drain. These dendritic cells then mature into antigen presentingcells that can stimulate T lymphocytes. One main difference between immature andmature dendritic cells is that mature dendritic cells can stimulate T lymphocytes andimmature dendritic cells cannot. Mature cells can also act as Antigen presenting cells, in
