Problems to work out and turn in (70 pts total)
The first few problems ask you to recall some results from wave mechanics.
Feel free to look up the answers in your P284 text or elsewhere—I don’t need
you to re-derive these results, but I do want you to fix them in your mind so
we can build on them later in the course.
I am also asking you to insert some actual numbers into the formulas.
You will need to look up physical quantities like the electron mass and the
density of silicon (try Google or Wikipedia).
Be sure to use a consistent
system of units such a SI (distances in meters, densities in kg/m
3
, etc.).
