Unformatted text preview: Notes 11/2/07 Process Writing Process writing has its own conventions, like other types of writing purposes. One of the main elements of process writing is organization – sequential, linear (beginning to end), (stepwise, in some cases). In most cases it is sequential because it is a process. It begins somewhere and it ends/concludes somewhere. When you’re doing these things you need to have an ordering strategy – plan in specific terms, plan according to specific features of the process you’re explaining, use transitions (Barthes refers to them as “relays.” In explaining hurricanes, you might first talk about the effect of water temperature on the atmosphere. You would plan your explanation of the specific process you are explaining in separate terms. Context I t is the basis for thinking. Planning for audience. Introduce topic. Background. Define key terms that the reader might now. When you do all this stuff you are essentially building a framework.
