Exercise 3 Tracking Hurricane Dean Vector Data Model Georelational Database Purpose of the exercise: 1. To understand the concept of basic units of vector data models. 2. To learn how to use georelational database using a simple data model. 3. To learn how to capture, store, manipulate, and display vector data in ArcGIS 9.2. . In this exercise, we will create a relational database of hurricane track of Hurricane Dean and transform the data into a GIS format. We will also learn simple classification of the data. 1. Create a database of the hurricane track: Method 1: Create the database in MS Excel (I assume that you would already know how to do this!!!) Method 2: Create the database in ArcGIS: A: Create an empty dbase table. a. Start ArcCatalog b. Scroll to the directory where you will store the table. c. Right click on the directory and choose new dbase table . Rename the table as Dean.
