Every class period will entail short class lectures and hands on computer based GIS exercise on marine related issues. Students will learn how to use ArcGIS 9.2 and create simple GIS models primarily using vector data. Course Objectives: 1. Understand the concept of spatial data analysis and benefit and use in marine science and marine resource management. 2. To apply GIS concepts and create simple GIS model for engineering applications using ArcGIS 9.2. Text and Readings: Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, 4th Edition by Kang-tsung Chang Assigned journal readings to be provided. Recommended Readings
