Jaclyn Mason November 13, 2006 Section Q Physical Geography Extra Credit: Tsunamis: How Safe is the United States By Thomas Aaron Green In this article by Thomas Aaron Green he discusses the processes, danger zones, and warning systems of tsunamis. Green discusses that it is very likely that tsunami more destructive than the one that occurred in Asia just a few years can occur on the West Coast of the United States. The areas that are in the greatest danger of coming into contact with a tsunami more powerful than the one that occurred in Asia are Washington, Oregon, and California. There are three scenarios that could happen on the United States West Coast that would lead to a very powerful tsunami. A lot of what will influence a tsunami has to do with earthquakes that occur at plate boundaries. The tsunami that occurred in Asia occurred when an undersea earthquake occurred. This earthquake measured 9.0 on the Richter Scale and was the force that created the tsunami that struck Asia. Like in Asia in these following scenarios of tsunamis the force behind them are
