Compose two paragraphs, each paragraph describing some of yourclassroom design ideas. Make sure you include a description of theconnection between your ideas for the classroom design and your theoreticalframework. Further, you will need to provide some suggestion of how yourdesign is developmentally appropriate for the age group you have chosen. For my classroom, I will be designing it to support preschool/pre-k learning within the childdevelopment center. The learning centers I will provide will include the library area, art area, dramatic play area, blocks area, writing area, and table toys/manipulative play. The library areawill also be utilized for circle time throughout the day. Each of these learning centers will beclearly established by organizing the shelves to make them their own distinct area (Bredekamp,2019, p. 97).Additionally, large open spaces will be avoided (Bredekamp, 2019, p. 97). By creating distinctareas and avoiding large open spaces, it prevents children from running within the classroom aswell as limits the number of children in each area. In order to continually promote that, I willprovide a label/sign in each area that includes the name of the area, the number of childrenallowed, as well as a photo that correlates with the area. In addition to providing establishedcenters, the centers will be organized by separating the nosier areas from the quieter areas(Bredekamp, 2019, p. 97). This will prevent those in the quieter areas from being interrupted inplay. In addition to the layout of my environment, I will also be including developmentally appropriatematerials within each of the centers. In the library area I will provide culturally and linguisticallyappropriate books, puppets, small couch, pillows, etc. In the writing center I will providejournals, envelopes, paper, stamps, pencils and pens, etc. In the dramatic play area I will providedress-up clothes, play food, culturally sensitive dolls, child-size furniture, etc. In the art area Iwill provide Play-Doh, scissors, easel, paint, paintbrushes, etc. In the blocks area I will providedifferent types of blocks (hollow, unit blocks, foam blocks), vehicles, animals, etc.In order to incorporate my theoretical framework, I will ensure that my environment promotesplay-based learning, intentional teaching, observations, individual differences, anddevelopmentally appropriate practices. Play-based learning will be promoted by providingcenters that allow children to explore and manipulate with toys and materials. Intentionalteaching will be promoted by intentionally setting up the classroom to promote learning. Forexample, by ensuring that there are established areas and that nosier centers are separate fromquieter centers.Observations are promoted by allowing a number of children to utilize a center. This will allowthe child to observe others in play. Individual differences will be promoted by the inclusion ofdifferent centers to promote different types of learning. Additionally, through utilizing signswithin the classroom that incorporate words and pictures will allow each child’s learning type tobe stimulated. Developmentally appropriate practices are promoted by the type of learning
materials that are provided within the classroom. For example, ensuring that the materials are not
