Biweekly AssignmentQuestion:Are we inherently good or evil?Can God exist amid evil if He’s truly good?Philosopher: St. AugustineI asked these questions because these are questions that have plagued modernsociety unlike any other. When a baby is born are they inherently evil? And how can evilexist in the world if God is good? Philosopher, St. Augustine of Hippo, gives insight tothese questions. His theodicy states that God’s goodness and benevolence are perfectand will remain perfect, without responsibility for evil or suffering. I found this interestingbecause this is the basis of the Christian faith. I (and other Christians like me) will saythey are born-again Christians. This is to say we were once stained with sin and eviluntil we chose to accept the salvation offered by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This goeshand in hand with what Augustine believed. He believed that God was and is perfectand that evil is the result of humanity’s sin. So at this point, we have answers to ourquestions: yes, we are inherently evil because of humanity’s first abuse of free will; yes,God can and does exist in evil because evil does not come from Him.
