ECE 107: Homework 2 1) Why is it impractical to have a coaxial cable with a characteristic impendence Z 0 =500 Ω? . Is it possible for a two-wire line?. In both cases assume a lossless TL and a ε r =1. 2) Calculate an approximate square wave assuming the first four Fourier components. Assume that the after transmitting through a line that there is a frequency dependent attenuation factor. The fundamental frequency ( ω ) is attenuated 10%, the second component (3 ω ) is attenuated 30%, the third component (5 ω ) is attenuated 50% and the fourth component (7 ω ) is attenuated 70%. Calculate the resulting wave form. Now assume that there is no attenuation but there is a frequency dependent velocity such that after transmission that the second component (3 ω ) is phase lagged 60 degrees, the third component (5 ω ) is phase lagged 120 degrees and the fourth component (7 ω ) is phase lagged 180 degrees from the fundamental. Calculate the resulting waveform. 3:
