Fifield 1 Jennifer Fifield Professor Sarah Cohen English 131 9 October 2007 Short Paper 1.2 -- Reading Response Gloria Anzaldúa’s essay titled “How To Tame A Wild Tongue” portrays her feelings about the various Mexican and Spanish dialects. I believe that language is an important part of every culture. After reading Anzaldúa’s work, I empathize with her because the Chicano culture is generally looked down upon, and she feels that she cannot identify with her culture if she cannot identify with her language. I can sense that she, along with several other female Chicanos, believe that they are being discriminated against. I find it interesting how Anzaldúa uses the different dialects throughout her essay, and it makes it a lot more personal and appeals more to the reader. However, at times I found it was difficult to understand the Mexican and Spanish dialects, and in a way that affected how much of an effect I receive from Anzaldúa’s work.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
