The effects of changing your energy habits For my problem I wanted to see how much money my household of five could save by changing out old light bulbs for CFL bulbs, turning off the heat at night and when it doesn’t need to be on, and unplugging unused adapters. The results indicated that if we did these things, reducing the heat to 8 hours a day, and only keeping the adapters in when in use, we could reduce our cost by 49.05%. The worth of this is obvious just by looking at that number, but if you look deeper into it you see that this also reduces fossil fuels and in turn helps the world along with your bank account. To gather the data I walked around my house looking at different devices and the amount of watts they used. The x-box 360 and water heater were too hard to figure out so I used the figures at, http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/howmuch.html , and also to figure out the CFL bulb usage compared to regular bulbs I used figures from, www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=cfls.pr_cfls
