Ben DeYoung Music 1014: Rock II Paper Assignment #3 Less Than Zero The book Less Than Zero written by Bret Eason Ellis has many connections to the world. The book mostly has connections to the musical culture of the era. This includes the many genres of music and the music videos being created at the time. It also has connections to the culture in California at that time. Throughout the book the characters always seemed to be surrounded by music. Whenever they throw parties, they either have a local band playing or they have music playing in the background. When they go to clubs there are local or famous bands playing there. Even when the characters are driving around, they seem to have music playing around them. However, when they are at their homes, there seems to be an absence of music. All the music that is surrounding them is popular music; music that you can find on the Top 100 lists. But there is a difference in the music they listen when in different situations. When the characters are surrounded by lots of people or are at a club, the music in the background is always loud and is something that everyone has heard before. But then the characters are
