Jaymin Ling BUAD-304 Professor Michael Coombs TA: Chris Bresnahan (Tues, 10am) 3 December 2007 Assignment 5 (Lecture) 1. What type of change process would you call this? Explain. The type of change that occurred in General Electric is essentially a change in the organizational development of the company. Organizational development is a term used to encompass a collection of planned-change interventions built on humanistic- democratic values that seek to improve organizational effectiveness and employee well- being. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration in organizational development. The Work-out scheme generally encouraged several key factors such as the increase in respect for individuals in the company, the increase in general participation of both senior management and employees, encouragement of employees to vent their frustrations and suggestions in a survey-type like manner. This is in-line with the underlying values behind most OD efforts which include respect for people, trust and support, power
