Si Qi Yeo 14740 Lecture Assignment 1 09/20/2007 Chapter 4 Ethical Dilemma: Hiring Based on Genetic Data With the Human Genome Project being developed and a high level of research being carried out with significant findings and results, I do not think it is ethical for employers to engage in genetic testing with the intent to screen for diseases or potential diseases. There are many things in society that are not illegal but have bearings and consequences tied to it when carried out. One such thing would be the testing of genes to determine a person’s disease(s). When hiring a person, the main factor that should be considered would be the person’s fit for the position he/she has applied for (person-job fit and person-organization fit). A person’s qualifications for the job, his/her behavior – to fit the company’s culture – should be of utmost importance. Many factors play a part in differentiating each individual from the next – demographics, culture, biological background, religion etc. These are factors that frequently
