Pavlov’s dogs Gambling--e.g., slot machines Clever Hans Little Albert--fear conditioning Trial and error learning--e.g., bears learning to catch fish Teaching animals to perform tricks Drug addiction, the development of tolerance, and overdosing Example: Classical Conditioning Little Albert: NS (fuzzy white animal) + UCS (loud noise) => UCR (fear) CS (fuzzy white animal) => CR (fear) Tolerance = a decrease in responsiveness to a drug (helps protect body from drug) Drug (UCS) => tolerance response (UCR) (reflex) NS (familiar setting) + UCS (drug) => UCR (tolerance response) CS (familiar setting) => CR (tolerance response) --With time, tolerance increases. Use more drug for same effect. --What happens when take drug in unfamiliar setting?
