Deborah Gillen Topic Proposal English 101, Section 037 6 October 2007 It is very ironic that in a world of sexual equality, women are degraded in the media. Everyone tries to emphasize the fact that women and men are now equal, as opposed to decades ago in which women were seen as assistant-like. However, it really has not changed that dramatically at all. It seems as though women in the media are just pretty or promiscuous statues for men to stare at. Also, men’s roles in the media seem to always overpower a woman’s. How are men always seen as kings compared to women in the media? Why are women always seen as nothing but sex or fashion icons in the media? Even though many women across the world are against this factor, many women also voluntarily participate in the phenomenon, which is why it interests me. I find it fascinating that the media is always directed toward a powerful male as opposed to females. It seems as though no matter how hard the world tries, women in the media will always be something pretty for a man to keep on his arm. What are men
