IntroductionThe case study is about aScandinavian customer who has placed an order regarding dozens oftrains with a multinational company. Both parties used English as the communication languagefor this project which lasted four years. The communication between them was Face-to-facemeetings, letters, file transfers and verbal modes. This document will illustrate how the customerwas integrated into the project and how they assess the coordination and communicationmechanism.Cultural ImpactsScandinavian represents the counties in Northern Europe such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark andFinland. Their communication style is more participative with everyone who agrees with theirideas. With reference to verbal communication, Scandinavians prefer to speak in a very politeandstraightforward manner. In fact, they use low context where their feelings and thoughts areclearly expressed with more information as they use explicit messages. They also believe that itis rude to interrupt when someone is speaking and they usually take turns where everyone canparticipate. In fact, long silence in between a conversation is a very rare situation inScandinavian culture as they believe that it is a sign of poor interest in the conversation. When itcomes to non-verbal communication modes they maintain an individual space and eye contactduring conversations. In addition, Scandinavians are rarely using hand gestures when speaking. Both English and Scandinavian languages are Germanic languages which include shared wordsand some grammar where their roots are in Nordic Bronze Age culture.2
According to the case study, when a multinational company communicates with its client, thecompany should consider the cultural background and individual values of the client to maintainefficient information flow.
