Clustering in Wireless Sensor NetworksAbstractWhile wireless sensor networks (WSN) are increasingly equipped to handle morecomplex functions, in-network processing still requires the battery-poweredsensors to judiciously use their constrained energy so on prolong the electivenetwork life time. There are some protocols using sensor clusters to coordinatethe energy consumption during a WSN, but the way to house energyheterogeneity remains a look question. We propose a modified clusteringalgorithm with a three-tier energy setting, where energy consumption amongsensor nodes is adaptive to their energy levels. A theoretical analysis shows thatthe proposed modifications lead to an extended network stability period.
