Meredith C TE250 Community Event Paper Knowing that Spartan Village has a strong international population, I was really excited to attend the International Event at the Spartan Village Community Center. “Where else could I learn more about other cultures and countries in such a welcoming environment?” I thought. But honestly, I was rather disappointed by the experience. I had originally thought I would stay for a most of the event, but sadly it became quickly clear that this was more an example of the ‘Heroes & Holidays’ system applied in many elementary and high schools than an actual celebration of diversity, so I only ended up staying for the recommended hour. Upon arriving, the main attraction was the food at the various booths. Many of the booths contained informative displays on the respective countries’ history and culture, but most people didn’t notice these displays or just didn’t care. People crowded in with their plates, grabbed enough food to appease their families, and left to munch in
