2 FAMILY BUSINESS Family Business Looking at individual employee rights comes across as black and white when in fact it is anything but black and white; it is and always will be grey. Laws such as Employment-at-will and False Claims Act will always give one side or the other an advantage, be it unfair it is still “law”. Looking at the minicase, Family Business, Jane walks into a peculiar predicament involving brothers Eddie and Greg. It seems as if Eddie, General Manager for R&S Electronic Service Company, has been giving his brother an advantage over the other service technicians on staff which results in Gregg receiving higher commission pay (Helms, 1992). There are several stakeholders in this situation but it seems as if Jane is the major stakeholder and has the most to lose. This is her first job out of college and with that comes the innocence of being naive to the cruel ways of the work place. Keep in mind both Brad (Owner) and Eddie welcomed her into her new position as Payroll Department head; however Eddie made sure she was clear about maintaining strict confidentiality regarding salaries and pay scales (Helms, 1992) in addition to making her aware of the previous dept. head’s termination being as a result of breaking “confidentiality”. Imagine a reference call to a previous employer and the Manager reviles termination due to a breach in HR confidentiality … Jane would have a difficult time finding employment with the inference of her lack of discretion. “The employment relationship is more than just an income source.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
