Unformatted text preview: PHY 2053 Chapter 10 Homework Solutions Page 1 of 2 PHY2053 – Chapter 10 Homework Solutions (part a) Conceptual Questions: 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 Problems: 3, 4, 5, 14, 16, 20, 25, 33, 34, 40, 41, 43 Conceptual Questions 1. Assume each person pulls with force F , then the force applied on the spring when attached to the wall is 2 F , while in the second part the force is only F . Therefore the spring stretch more in the first situation. 3. (a) The velocity is zero when the shadow reaches left and right endpoint where the x component of the velocity of the ball is zero. (b) The acceleration is zero when the shadow is at the center point ( x = 0) where the x component of the acceleration of the ball is zero. 4. The velocity of the ball apparently does not oscillate as described by equation (10.7), therefore this is not simple harmonic motion. 6. (a) Since the second block is attached at the extreme end of the oscillation when the first velocity is momentarily zero, the amplitude A of the oscillation should stay the same. of the oscillation should stay the same....
