What is wage slavery? Chutzpah gets you the job, not always the technical skills Traditional authority is authority derived from tradition (ie kings) Functions of Management: Planning (Stating goals and methods to achieve them (1 st stage)) Setting organizational goals and strategies to attain those goals Organizing (Delegating tasks (2 nd stage)) Allocating resources, tasks, and procedures for achieving goals Leading (Bossing 3rd stage) Guiding and motivating employees to work effectively to accomplish goals Controlling (Measuring performance 4 th stage) Measuring performance against objectives Forms of Planning: Strategic- Long broad goals (to be a better wrestler) Tactical- Specific short range (go to gym every morning) Operational- setting standards (leave gym tired!) Contingency- back up plan (learn dirty moves) Goals of Business: Businesses Strive to: · Achieve a Profit · Provide Goods and Services · Improve Standard of Living
