Miranda Sanders Paul Dennis Pedagogy 15 April 2008 Sample Syllabus for a Non-Major Ballet Class Non-Major Ballet I DANCE 834 Section 01 Lecture 23958 56 T/Th 3:30- 4:45 13 Totman Class Overview Non- Major Ballet’s main goals are to start, or expand upon beginning ballet technique in a studio setting, as well as integrate a small amount of ballet history and ballet technique as it is in today’s modern world. Students will gain an understanding of ballet technique in an environment that stresses proper movement to prevent injury, improve strength and overall understanding of ballet as an art and a physical activity in a supportive setting. Course Strategies: In class: work at the barre and center, have a focus on proper technique, and engage in occasional short observations of ballet videos in class. Outside of class: two short projects to learn a bit about ballet history, and to also learn what ballet is today. These two projects will involve a one-page paper for each assignment.
