Smith 1 Nic Smith English 1101 CRN 3381 10/1/07 Essay 3 Maurice Clarett and Lawrence Phillips may seem to have similar lives by what they did, how popular they were, and what happened to them. Both of them were stellar athletes at different prestigious colleges. They both got in trouble with the law and coincidentally put in jail. The difference between Maurice Clarett and Lawrence Phillips is not what they did, but mainly who they were and how they reacted to the stress and pressure of the infamy of sports that was put on them. Maurice Clarett was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1983. As www.wikipedia.org states, “During his freshman year at Ohio State University, he was considered one of the best college football players in the country, leading the Buckeyes to a national championship. He is well known for unsuccessfully challenging the NFL's rule that a player must be out of high school for three years to be eligible for the entry draft and his tumultuous life afterwards. Since the national championship game that made him a national figure, Clarett has not played another game of football. The former tailback is currently serving jail time after accepting a plea deal amid charges of committing robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest.” Lawrence Phillips was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1975. “He is a former professional American football and Canadian football running back who has had numerous
