Jesus was a Galilean Jew of the 1 st century 2. Charismatic teacher who was talented with healing and other miraculous wonders 3. Taught a message of inclusivity and love/challenger of status quo 4. Messianic claims were made about Jesus/highly waited for messiah that several Jewish communities were waiting for 5. Executed by Pontius pilot in rein of Tiberius. Jesus was seen as a threat/enemy of the Romans that was going to create another uprising. Suggests that Jesus was among a group of criminals for rising up against the Romans Nazarenes- people who followed Jesus Nature and function of the gospel Why were they written and what is their purpose. Not biographies. Only two talk about Jesus’ birth Few have detailed life experience of Jesus. Mark starts at adult.
