MNM1 TASK 2: MAPPINGLeBouef 2A1.Image 1 (Google Maps, 2022)Image 2 (Google Maps, 2022)A2.In terms of choosing between a bedrock or surficial geological map, I came to theconclusion to use a surficial geological map. The region I chose is mostly composed ofthe same rock strata so a bedrock geological map would not give enough detail for thelocation, however a surficial geological map is more detailed on displaying what landfeatures are present on the surface level of the landscape.
MNM1 TASK 2: MAPPINGLeBouef 3A2a.Two important geologic maps are bedrock and surficial maps. These two maps haveadvantages for geologists who tend to study the surface and sublevel rock for various purposes.Bedrock geologic maps display the solid rock stata at or below the surface of the loose materialof the earth. An advantage of using a bedrock map is that it describes the rock types within thegiven location being surveyed. This can come in handy when someone is locating a specifictype of rock for a particular purpose such as those who mine granite. A bedrock map will showwhether or not that specific type of rock is able to be extracted from that location or if there isany of the rock type at all. Bedrock maps also give insight into the history of the region byholding a record of geologic events. This advantage is crucial when determining what isoccurring in a specific location such as tectonic movement and potential igneous activity. Sincethe bedrock keeps this information and preserves it like a computer stores data, geologists areable to decipher the history of the region and potentially uncover its future based on geologicbedrock maps. Surficial geologic maps display the unconsolidated material at the surface of theearth. An advantage of using surficial geologic maps is highlighting the surface level geologicfeatures present in a place or region. For example, if there tends to be valleys or rivers in anarea, a surficial geological map will show these features which could come in handy if a personso happened to be traveling by foot. Also, surface maps are a key component in determining
