1.Perform a personal audit on your methods of stress management. Use the concepts from thebook (pp. 304-310) and the supplemental lecture. How well do you do manage your own stressand that of your coworkers?Stress management is a highly complex and subjective phenomenon. As described in the video lecture,stress can be experienced when situations are uncertain and important. A leader may experience thesesituations several times in their professional life, which can cause stress. Besides having uncertain andcomplex situations come up at work, a person may have situations come up in their personal lives thatcan affect their ability to handle uncertain situations at work. If there are no issues in their personal life,a person may have better bandwidth to handle complex situations are work and not feel any impact ofstress. However, if a person is experiencing stress in their personal lives, their ability to handle smallchanges, that may otherwise be easy to handle, can feel more stressful.Having been through several stressful situations in my personal and professional life, I know thatuncertainty and inability to control or influence a situation for the better, often causes me stress. It isimportant to have awareness of situations that have the potential of causing stress, which may bedifferent for every person. I have a certain amount of resilience for work, such that when a stressfulsituation presents itself, I remind myself of all the circumstances I have handled, which gives me theboost I need to have to deal with the current situation. I also have peers and friends, with whom I cancommunicate regularly and openly about the situations causing me stress, which helps significantly.Personally, I also make sure I get enough sleep and force myself to exercise more when I am experiencingstress.Time management can lead to stress such that there is a lot to do and limited time. The way I deal withit, is to take the time to make lists, and think about activities as value-added or non-value added. I thinkof any non-value-added activities that can be deferred or avoided, which helps alleviate the load. If they
