Unformatted text preview: A Simple Kidnapping “Wow, what a great birthday party. Who helped you?” The house was decorated on the inside and the outside. There was cake and presents and lots of people inside and out. The BBQ was always filled with burgers and dogs. The tables outside were filled with all sorts of food. At about 8:30, Kate noticed that she had not seen her daughter in quite a while. She asked her sister, Carrie, if she had seen her and she said no. Then she found her new husband and asked him. The same answer. No one at the party saw her. Kate looked inside and out and still could not find her. There were so many people there. It felt like she was looking in the same spots so many times. She was starting to get panic-stricken. Everyone joined in the hunt; people went house to house in the neighborhood. By the time she called the police, it was after 11:00 p.m. Some people went home, others stayed. The police came and took a missing person’s report. They collected her picture and started to print up flyers. The police got a list of all of the people at the party and started to interview them. No one had any ideas. Ted held Kate as she spoke and started to interview them....
