Robert Kempton Environmental Science 250-500 Word Paper 1/9/06 Some may question whether the movie “The Day After Tomorrow” is fact or fiction. I personally believe that this is possible and the movie is in many ways fact. I also think that this could very well occur in the future. There are also some points in the movie that are unrealistic which I will explain. The more realistic points in the movie could in fact happen, in a long period of time. An abrupt climate change or (“great ocean current circulation which is driven by differences in temperature and salinity, were to shut down because of an influx of freshwater, which could occur if global warming caused a melting of Arctic ice sheets”). is very possible in real life because in fact the earth is beginning to warm up and we are emitting fossil fuels and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which is causing the global warming. Now in the movie they show places where disasters could never occur like a hurricane over Scotland, because hurricanes usually occur over water and not land. There
