Victoria Cooper April 20, 2008 HPRB 1710 Current Event Pesticide Influence Recent studies have shown that there has been an increase in brain diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and motor neuron disease). The studies explanation to this recent increase is the use of pesticides and other environmental hazards. This study was observed for twenty years in US, the UK, Japan, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain. Researchers discovered that over the period of the study Alzheimer’s rose nearly 90 percent for women in England and Wales. Parkinson’s and motor neuron disease there was a 50 percent rise in cases for men and women in every country observed except Japan. Researchers said the rise in neurological deaths mirrors the rice in cancer rate in the West. Researchers also took into account the longer life expectancy and more advance technology for diagnosis of these diseases. However, genetic links to the causes of these diseases have been ruled out because if there were
