1 There are 2 types of transcriptional control: Positive control, in which a regulatory protein acts as an activator , stimulating transcription; Negative control in which expression is controlled by a repressor that inhibits transcription. Gene Regulation in Bacteria Gene Regulation in Bacteria Constitutive genes – are expressed all of the time. Inducible genes – are normally off and are turned on by the presence of an inducer substance. Repressible genes – are normally on and are turned off by the presence of a repressor substance.

2 Enzymes in many biosynthetic pathways of bacteria and viruses are encoded by operons containing clusters of genes that are transcribed on a single polycistronic mRNA molecule . All of the enzymes in a specific metabolic pathway are thus regulated by a single mechanism. RNA polymerases bind to DNA at sites called promotor . Proteins that bind to/interact with RNA polymerases regulate transcription initiation Specificity factors ( σ subunit) Repressors Activators

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
