CHALLENGES CAUSED BY ICT IN THRID MILLENIUM IN UGANDA AND HOW TO DEAL WITH

1. Increased Cybercrime
Many forms of cybercrime has been on the rise in Uganda. Among these include
online fraud of telecommunication customers, cyber stalking and bullying on social
media, identity theft etc. All these have been on the rise due to factors such as:
a. Inadequate sensitization of citizens on data privacy and protection by telecom
companies
b. Policies against cybercrime are not put into actions and enforcers do not have
enough resources and capability to enforce the police
c. There is a gap of ICT illiteracy among citizens
The above crimes can be minimized or eradicated by following means.
 Sensitizing people about the conmen attacks and ensure they are
alert. This can be done by providing fraud alerts on social media
platforms, TVs and other communications forms. Additionally tracking
of the fraudsters and ensure they are stopped by the
telecommunication companies together with law enforces would
reduce on the online fraud
 The government should also ensure that policies such as data
protection and privacy act, computer misuse act are put in
