escribe how you will demonstrate cultural competence in five of the exam topic areas of your
choosing.
 Learning Differences- I would take this opportunity to put the strong readers with those
who may need a little help. Just as I would do with math skills, put the strong math
learners with those who may need a little help.
 Learning Environments-The environment would be welcoming and inclusive. There will
be families from different types of families so I will have books and pictures that will
reflect the diversity of the children’s families.
 Assessment- Utilizing self-assessment “can lead to self-awareness about biases and
stereotypes that you may hold about the groups to which you belong- and those you do
not” (Curenton & Iruka, 2013).
 Professional Learning and Ethical Practice- Professional development would be a class
that I would need to attend when there’s one upcoming. I would also have to keep myself
updated with families and community culture. I would have a partnership with families so
that I would be able to have an open communication to understand the children and
family's culture.
 Leadership and Collaboration- I will invite families to the classroom during lunchtime. I
am available to all families to speak with me, and I will also provide a good email so
families will be able to reach out via email. I will be able to share resources for families
that will fit their needs.
