Personality What is personality? A set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual. Personality Personality Characteristics of Men and Women: Men : more active, loud, adventurous, aggressive Women : more affectionate, modest, nervous, fearful, patient Five Factor Model 1. Extraversion: talkative, outgoing, active, likes meeting new people Three facets of extroversion Gregariousness: W score slightly higher than M Activity: M score slightly higher than W Assertiveness: M score moderately higher than W Five Factor Model 2. Agreeableness Trust: cooperation, benefit of the doubt, and viewing others as basically good. Tender-mindedness: nurturing, empathy for others, sympathetic to others W substantially more trusting and tender-minded. Smiling: women smile more often than men Five Factor Model 3. Conscientiousness Refers to preparedness or having things in order Overall, M and W score essentially the same. Order- referring to organization, cleanliness
