The stakeholders in this case are as follows: George Mackee, the Plant manager, Bill, George’s boss, Mary, George’s wife, George’s children, Ardnack Plastic Inc., the City of Hondo, Mexico, the environment, the Environmental Protection Agency, the eco-system, every living thing around Hondo (animals, plants, insects), workers from Mexico, employees of Ardnack, their family and their friends. All of these stakeholders have a major interest in needing a safe and a healthy environment. Ardnack, George, and Bill have an interest in any profit the company makes. The Employees, friends and families, along with any living organism surrounding Hondo, have an interest in the contaminated air. Environmental Laws certainly apply to this case, more specifically, it involves the Clean Air Act of 1970, which “ regulates the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere. Under this law, national ambient air-quality standards (NAAQs) are set, and the release of certain major pollutants—particulates, toxins, and compounds that deplete stratospheric ozone, that contribute to acid rain, and that are dangerous to human health—are limited (Halbert & Ingulli, 2015). The Environmental Protection Agency has the legal standing to impose fines and sanctions if Ardnack does not abide by the rules and regulations of the EPA. The company could also be forced to refrain from performing some of the designated actions if it does not resolve its pollution issue. If the situation goes unresolved for long enough or if it gets progressively worse, criminal penalties could also be applied (EPA & OECA, 2016). Additionally the company could face many lawsuits from its employees and the surrounding community. If the decision makers in this case were to use categorical imperative theory, the manager, George would go upper management and make them aware of the issue in an effort to resolve the problem without regard of costs.
