Africa has always been colonized by the westerners or europeans. In World War II, rapiddecolonisation swept across the continent of Africa as many territories gained theirindependence from European colonisation. Consumed with post-war debt, European powerswere no longer able to afford the resources needed to maintain control of their African colonies.The Union of South Africa parliament enacts the Status of the Union Act, which declares thecountry to be "a sovereign independent state".
