Percent Fractured Particles in Coarse Aggregate ASTM D-5821 Tm Boyer CM 442 Pre-Lab Purpose The purpose of this lab is to establish a standardized test for determining the percentage of fractured particles so that certain mixes can be verified that they meet specifications. Equipment Balance – accurate to 0.1% of sample weight Sieves – ranging from 3-1/2” to 3/8” Splitter – for dividing samples into test portions Spatula – aid in sorting aggregate particles Procedure Wash the sample over the sieve for removal of fine particles and weigh Spread the dried test sample on a flat surface and inspect each particle
