What factors affect the success of a  pressure group? According to Robert Baggott a pressure group is ‘an organisation which seeks to  influence the details of a comparatively small range of public policies and which is not  a faction of a recognised political party’. There are numerous successful groups such  as the Trade Union Congress (TUC) or the Confederation of British Industry (CBI),  but there are also lesser known pressure groups such as Keep Sunday Special. But  what factors determine how successful a pressure group is? Firstly, the group’s size will play an important role. A government is much more likely  to respond to a group which has a large membership – if they did not respond  favourably, the government may lose the votes of the members of the group at the  next general election. Groups with sectional interests, such as motorists, can expect  to receive a better response from the government than a group with a small  membership campaigning for the protection of pigeons, for example.  Secondly, the success of a pressure group largely depends on which party is in  power. A government is more likely to be influenced by large numbers of its own  potential supporters. Some pressure groups will, therefore, expect better treatment  from one party than another. For example, a large number of members of the

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
