MUS 2663 June 18, 2007 Listening Assignment #2 The CD I choose is Tommy Dorsey, The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing: Centennial Collection disc two. The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing came in a three disc collection, I am only reviewing disc two. Disc two consists of many performers, way to many to mention; so I will name only a few. Tommy Dorsey who is the primary artist or bandleader who plays the trombone, trumpet, cornet, vocals, and does many solos in the CD. Other vocalists are Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley. Other very popular performers who are on this CD consists of Benny Goodman (clarinet), Bud Freeman (clarinet and tenor saxophone), Duke Ellington ( piano, leader, and soloist), and also Jimmy Dorsey who is Tommy Dorsey’s younger brother (Clarinet, Trumpet, Alto Saxophone); there are many more to mention but not enough time. RCA Blueburd is the recording label and it was released on October 4, 2005.

Simon explains that “Dorsey’s band. ..must be recognized as the greatest dance band of them all. ..and capable of doing more things better than any other band” (http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=19412 )....
