Laboratory XI: Low and High Pass Fiters Name: LaRhonda Mabry Lab Partners: Cara Singletary Date: April 1, 2008 Objective: The objective of this lab was to introduce the concept of filter design, to use filters as examples of the transfer function concept, and to provide and operational example of the application of Bode plots. Equipment Used: Dual Bean Oscilloscope Function Generator Digital Multi-meters Frequency Counter Decade Resistance Box Decade Capacitance Box Inductor (10 mH) Procedure: 1. To begin this lab we were to set up the circuit seen in figure 1, setting the resistor to 1 k-Ohm and the capacitor to .1 micro-farads and placing them in series and taking the voltage across the capacitor making this “low pass” filter. In this step we were to develop the transfer function Vo/Vin. We set the input voltage to 2.00 V (rms), and kept this value constant throughout the procedure while varying the frequency from 500 Hz to 15 kHz, finding the values in Table 1, in steps that would give us enough values to plot an accurate output voltage versus frequency graph. We also had to connect to the oscilloscope to determine the phase difference between Vo and Vin.
