Milhoan Comm. 101 Prof. Hanke April 20, 2008 Power to the People Essay As I outlined in my thesis for my speech the goal of my speech was to inform the crowd about the short comings of the Electoral College and why the American people should try to change the voting process to be a popular vote where everyone’s vote counts. The Electoral College is a process that has been used since the Constitution was written and we had our first president. Although during its use there have been several debates about why it is used for instance in years 1824, 1876, 1888, and 2000 the popular vote was actually in favor of the runner up candidate. That instance hasn’t happened often based off the information presented above yet isn’t it still important for everyone’s voice to be heard. To demonstrate how the Electoral College system is somewhat of a bad process an possible example can be used that a candidate can win the presidential election by winning just 11 states (California 55, Texas 34, New York 31, Florida 27, Illinois 21, Pennsylvania 21, Ohio 20, Michigan 17, Georgia 15, New Jersey 15 and North Carolina 15). Now even if a candidate did win all of those states that are very populated states the other candidate could still win
